What is $SVOL and what is its yield?
$SVOL, or the Simplify Volatility Premium ETF, is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that seeks to provide investment results that correspond to approximately one-fifth to three-tenths (-0.2x to -0.3x) the inverse of the performance of the Cboe Volatility Index (VIX) short-term futures index while also seeking to mitigate extreme volatility.
The VIX is a measure of the implied volatility of the S&P 500 index, and it is often seen as a gauge of fear in the stock market. When the VIX is high, it means that investors are expecting more volatility in the stock market, and vice versa.
$SVOL seeks to profit from a decline in volatility. It does this by shorting VIX futures contracts. Shorting a futures contract means that you are selling the contract to another party at a certain price, and you agree to buy it back at that price at a later date. If the price of the futures contract falls between the time you sell it and the time you buy it back, you will make a profit.
$SVOL's yield is the annualized return of the ETF. As of October 13, 2023, the ETF's yield is 16.15%.
